Cristian Guzman slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Langley Farm Team won
in dramatic fashion over the Dublin Pubcrawlers by a score of 7 to 6 at the
ballpark.
Langley came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs utilizing
2 base hits. Derrek Lee led off and he laced a single. After another out,
Joe Randa followed, but he was set down on strikes. Geoff Jenkins then
cracked a two-run shot (his 17th of the season) making Langley the victor and
beginning a joyous home town celebration. Langley had 13 hits for the
afternoon while Dublin had 8.
The victory was credited to Matt Wise(2-1) who went 1 and 2/3 innings,
allowing no runs. John Smoltz(2-5) took the loss in relief. Scott Whitley
was ebullient after the game, 'It's great to win a hard fought game like
that. Our guys just weren't going to be denied. And did you see the fans -
they were going wild! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win this afternoon!'
